Music magazine evaluation

 Evaluation-

Creating my music magazine was quite difficult but with the correct inspiration and evaluation of other magazines, I created something that fits my genre.

With the front cover, I created a scene that reflects the nostalgia factor weird-core often emits. Whilst editing the image I decided to use filters to make the image look as if it were taken on an old Polaroid type camera this furthers the nostalgia factor. I took inspiration from the vanity fair magazine cover I evaluated and tried to find a similar font, the font I chose had the qualities I was looking for. I also went in between making the font bold and normal to create a similar dramatic, emphatic look to the cover. I chose the masthead name of ‘verity’ to almost be a parody of ‘vanity’, the name of the existing music magazine vanity fair. I chose to add images of dried flowers to give the magazine some personality I thought it was missing. I added some fake article titles on the side to make the magazine seem more real, like it has more articles inside to read. The traffic cone as the head is an homage to the very popular style in weird core of people with object heads, there should be a couple photos of said style within my mood board or Pinterest board.

With the contents page I based it off a magazine I found at home. I put a date, title, page numbers and page number at the bottom of the page. Along with images. I added articles that have no meaning to create the sense of a real magazine, along with images that don’t just allude to my centre spread. I added the fake flower images to uniform the contents age with the front cover. I used a serif type font on the contents page where it says ‘contents’ to formalise it and create a more realistic style.

On the double page spread I used an image with the same cone- headed character in different outfit, to differentiate this image to the front cover. I used a lot of props from pre 2000s with a few exceptions creating a confusing time period- evoking nostalgia no matter the age. Including the bulky monitor and the Nokia phones. I used a pull quote to try and entice the reader into reading more, with an extract from the ‘article’ to do something similar. The font used was decidedly childish and cartoon like to accent the childish themes shown in the photo. The dried flower imagery also unifies it with the front cover and contents page.

Overall, there are things I would change. But I did the best I could with limited resources.

(This isn’t very good)
